La Roncaia is presented in Rome

It was the year 2001 and Bibenda AIS Roma hosted La Dolce Sfida (“Sweet Challenge”) a thought-provoking event that Marco Fantinel devised to unite Hungary and Italy in the name of Tocai. Eight years later, the firm returned to Bibenda to present La Roncaia, the group’s most exciting company, situated in the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC zone. The recipe for its success has very precise ingredients: 100% terroir, single crus to optimise, a small number of native vines to cultivate to best effect. This philosophy is reflected in what Marco Fantinel considers absolute priorities. “Since its very beginnings, La Roncaia has had a specific mission,” he says, “which is to continue the finest Friuli winemaking traditions at the highest levels by creating terroir-tied, original wines of outstanding quality”. In order to achieve its mission La Roncaia started a working partnership with wine consultants Alessio Dorigo and Marco Pecchiari over a year ago. Six wines were presented for the tasting session:

  • Colli Orientali del Friuli Refosco 2005
  • Colli Orientali del Friuli Il Fusco 2005
  • Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit 2007
  • Ramandolo 2007
